(22 caliber bolt action & semi-autos were not serial numbered prior to 1969)įirearm serial numbers were date coded by a prefix within the s/n, as signified below. However the 0 at the beginning of the serial number would indicate the year 2000. PS: Chart did not print out as it was supposed to. Beyond that is out of range for the chart. Chart on the right is ALL Marlins, beginning in 1968 thru 2000. Serial # 00018422 would have been manufactured in 2000.

Looking up the serial number makes me believe it was built in 2008, and I'm not sure when Marlin was acquired by Remington. This should clear things up for you. So I'm really not sure what I have to answer the other party. Currently it appears that A is for 2009, B for 2010 etc through 2017 it seems to hold true. Rem has since added a laser QDR or whatever its called square tag in front of that. In order to find the year of manufacture one needs to know the first two characters of the serial number as a minimum, either letters, numbers, or a letter. I have no idea what marks to look for to see if it's a "REMLIN" which seems to be a hybrid build. This starts with Remington production in 2009.

There is no "REM" proof mark, and the serial numbers don't match their pattern.

I can't see any markings indicating it is a Remington build. There is one proof mark on the left side of the barrel and it looks like "JMM", but the stamp is not even from one side to the other, so it's not absolutely clear reading it. I've been contacted by an interested party, but he wants to be certain that it's a "Real Marlin" and not a Remington or Remlin built rifle. I was hoping to join a CAS group out here but it didn't work out, so I'm trying to sell it so I can get something else more practical. I'm sure the answer is right in front of me, but I can't figure out all the answers. (Including Models 1881, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 18.) Note that records are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers are often duplicated, and the dates recorded are apparently shipping dates, not dates of manufacture. Marlin Lever Action Rifle Serial Numbers 1883 to 1906. I can't believe how stupid I feel asking this question. Brophy, Marlin Firearms, especially pages 628-631. The following table can be used to date the year of manufacture of a Marlin 336.

I'm not having any luck getting an answer over on the Marlin forum. Introduced in 1972 and named in honor of the Marlin Model of 1895 (produced from 1895. I hope somebody here can help me with some info on a Marlin rifle.
